Causes of sexual problems in women

There are various causes for sexual problems among women. Some of the sexual problems are simple, revocable physical dilemmas. Others are serious problems having severe medical conditions, emotional and difficult life situations. Many other problems are the combination of a number of causes. Causes such as relationship problems, emotional problems, gynecologic problems, physical conditions, history of abuse, medications, other medical treatments, attitudes toward sex and sexual problems of the partner create sexual problems for females.

Disagreement in other facets of a relationship, such as sharing of labor, raising child, or money, can cause sexual problems. These problems and situations prevent women from conceding her sexual needs and wants of her husband. Depression, anxiety (whether about sexual relationship or anything else), stress, anger and bitterness or any type of guilt prevents proper sexual functioning in women. Woman or her partner’s insufficient knowledge about sexual stimulation and response inhibits woman from achieving climax and satisfactory experience. If the communication between the partners is weak, then only insufficient stimulation takes place.

Various types of gynecologic predicaments cause sexual problems among women, which lead to pelvis disorder, cause pain in sexual intercourse and diminish sexual satisfaction. Few of them include:

1. Vaginal dryness: This is the most common type of problem in young women where the stimulation is not satisfying. Whereas in elder women, the decrease in the level of estrogen happens with menopause as it increases vaginal dryness. Poor or lack of lubrication caused by hormonal imbalance prevents or inhibits sexual desire.

This is caused by injuries, surgery, abuse, childbirth, infection or by pain from douches, condoms and spermicides. Even fear is one of the factors that cause Vaginismus.

3. Sexually transmitted diseases: Sexually transmitted diseases, such as Gonorrhea, herpes, genital warts, Chlamydia and syphilis, are contagious as they cause uncomfortable, painful sexual experience.

4. Vaginitis: This is inflammation and irritation of vaginal tissues. This is caused due to infection or other factors causing pain and irritation during sexual intercourse.

There are various physical conditions which causes female sexual problems. They are tiredness or fatigue, cancer, vascular or blood flow disorders, neurological disorders, hormonal imbalance, menopause and pregnancy. Even alcohol or drugs, reduces the sex desires and libido among women.

Some of medicines used for treating sexual problems include antidepressant, chemotherapy or high blood pressure medicines. Treatments for cancer reduce the flow of estrogen in women and thus prevent proper lubrication causing hindrance in sex. Women, who have suffered sexual abuse in their early days, suffer from sexual problems. These women resist any kind of sexual activity. To trust their partner so that in future they won’t suffer becomes a difficult task for them. This prevents both the partners from enjoying their sexual life.
