A debatable question often asked, “Is Kama sutra still relevant in our lives?” and my question is very simple and plain, “Yes it is!” Actually, there are host of arts upon which time could hardly have its bearing with centuries passing and ushering in new innovations and tastes; however, the oldest and the most basic art of this whole universe remains unaffected from the flood of ideas and innovations that seems to have penetrated almost all spheres of human lives. Yes! You must have flowed down to the purport, which I am hinting toward.
Kamasutra is the text that –like a guiding star – has been nurturing the sea of bliss that sprouts from the sexual act. In this very text, we find different methods of copulation/penetration and above all lovemaking. Before analyzing them, it’s of utmost importance to understand that this text is not about sexuality or obscenity but about the art of love making and I think it’s the first text of its kind that wraps the whole concept of sensuality into the strands of philosophy.
Now coming to the postures, I would say that it’s probably the only art that we indulge in, forgetting all self-imposed mannerisms. I guess, I won’t be wrong to say that this is the art that unobtrusively still keeps mankind connected to its primitive instincts. While the level of enjoyment is at its best, our mannerisms are at their worst. Isn’t it? Kamasutra has descriptions of various postures that one could adopt as per one’s needs while having sex viz – sitting position which gives consummating experience to the lovers, though couples needs to be healthy to enjoy this posture. Other postures like doggy style, etc. are suitable for those exploring wild and adventurous experience. However, missionary posture has been dubbed as the most suitable position worldwide, though variety being the requisite of any art, other postures could be adopted as per mental as well as emotional status. All these methods and many more are described in this text. So, in the modern world, we all somewhere seem to have accepted it, though tight-lipped. One important aspect is oral sex, which quite blatantly is displayed in many adult movies. However, this doesn’t reveal only the extremity of pleasure that one can enjoy, but relates to the then standards of hygiene, as well.
As I said above that Kama sutra is perhaps one of the only descriptive texts that tried to encapsulate the whole sensitization of sex into the fold of philosophy, therefore, it’s not just bound to the sensuality but to our social behavior, in general, as well. We all know that we can make the world a happy and better place to live in, but only if we make ourselves suitable for this and this move begins with we all making ourselves happy and joyous. And I am sure, you won’t cut in if I say, “Happy sexual life is the replica of our outer happier life”, isn’t it?
