What you need to know about AIDS and HIV

The severe most disease caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus is AIDS. The virus is a life threatening one, leaving a person vulnerable to various other diseases. The history of AIDS began from 1980 when doctors in California and New York found the spread of an unusual disease. Those men who were detected with AIDS mostly were homosexuals. Some had developed uncommon infections while the others had cancer. Some people even were found dying.

These infections were detected in children too. Most of the infected children were detected with a weak immune system. Government researchers found more and more people affected with the disease. There were even similar reports being sent from the Caribbean countries and Africa. The unnamed infection was being spread mostly through sexual contact, drug addicts who shared same syringes and blood transfusion. The disease has spread worldwide in just 32 years affecting 14 million adults and 3 million kids. It is one of the worst epidemics effecting humanity. The developing countries suffer more from the disease than the developed countries.

Symptoms

When people get infected by the virus, in the first two to four weeks they develop fever accompanied mostly by sore throat, muscle aches and even little rashes. The person gets cured in just some days and then again experiences the same accompanied with symptoms of weight loss, fatigue and diarrhea. These signs thus cause the weakening of the immune system in the body. For children who are born with HIV AIDs are very weak and fail to grow at a normal rate.

Prevention

The means of protection are simple and easy but people have to be careful most of the times. People can protect themselves from this virus by retaining themselves from sharing needles for either intake of drug or even for tattooing and body piercing.

When people become sexually active, they cannot withstand themselves from engaging in sexual activities. Even if they have sex, they should be particularly careful as to use sufficient protection. Using of latex condoms consistently when engaging in sexual activity prevents the spread of HIV AIDS. Having monogamous healthy relation where a man and a woman who are uninfected make love to each other only prevents HIV.

Initiatives

Billions of dollars are being spent to conduct researches on HIV and AIDS, to prevent its spread and to treat it. The billions of dollars still have not got any cure but progress has been made in this field. The new drugs have resulted in the downfall of the death rate and many people are now leading normal happy lives. The happy lives are only for those people in the developed nations as most people in the developing countries still cannot afford it and therefore being hit hard.
