Prostitution in India increases @ 50% in last decade

Prostitutes in India have risen by 50 percent. The count rose during the small time span of last ten years! There are two million sex workers in India in 1997. In 2004, it went to three million!

An NGO revealed in a survey that more than 35 percent of the sex workers enter the trade before the age of 18 only. The survey disclosed the inhuman condition of prostitutes. It says that 90 percent of them are in the 15-35 age groups.

The survey even worked on the cast line too that says 40 percent of the prostitutes belong to upper cast. That is more strange and a new trend. The street-operating prostitutes earn $43 to $522 per month. However, call girls earn $870to $17,300 per month.

Most importantly, most prostitutes oppose the move of making prostitution as legal. They usually prefer to be secretive.

He says, further, most of call girls do not want their profession to be legalized, as they prefer to work in secrecy. On the other hand, the prostitutes from red-light areas are making such demands.
