An Acrylic Year Ahead

Pastels are the next big thing in the fashion world

Sick and bored of the same old dashing black dresses and evening gowns?? Tired of the age old clichéd style statement of a wedding-white dress coupled with monochromatic accessories?? “Why keep them then?” is what I say. If you have thought about the first two lines sometime in the immediate past, you don’t need to worry because that is the exact same thing that celebrities and commoners are feeling all around the world. Therefore, usher in the new fashion age of doing away with dull and morose black sequins and giving prominence to pastels and colors that literally will heat up the spice in your wardrobe.

A closer look

Pastels are the next big thing in the fashion world, as more and more celebrities turn up at red carpet events wearing every color under the sun except monochromatic attires. The phenomenon is all the more observable in the new year of 2013 as a host of celebrities at the awards events held till now have turned up draping wild and may I say “bold” colors. Gone are the days of making a small ripple with subtlety, it is now the age of crashing a wave with a huge splash.

The recent award events of the Golden Globe and Oscars had celebrities showing off their colors in all their multi chromatic glory. However, there were people who just stood out from the rest. At the Golden Globes, there were two people who stole the show with their amazing pastel looks, namely Nicole Richie and Kelly Osbourne. In a sea of gothic hues and nude splashes, they two added some color with Kelly Osbourne turning up in a green, fishtail Zac Posen gown, while Nicole Richie turned up in a pale-blue and white Naeem Khan gown, with blue eye shadow as a complement. Of course, Kelly Osbourne seems all set to be in the mood for a little color this season as she catches all the attention with her lavender dyed hair.

The Oscar women though, seemed to have been drowned in the mood of the season as one after one turned up in blue and pale cream gowns, angel after angel in heavenly shimmer. Of course, standing out was Anne Hathaway in her Prada gown (guess, it made her night!!), and of course Charlize Theron in Chrstian Dior and Amanda Seyfried in an Alexander Mc Queen. On a lighter note, Queen Elizabeth II is in a colorful mood as she turns up in lilac, and also recently gave her royal approval to the electric blue color. Looks like it’s going to be an acrylic year, isn’t it so??
