Importance of comprehensive sex education in schools

sex education

How comprehensive sex education in schools is better? Research shows that comprehensive sex education helps to impede start of sexual activity, increase use of contraceptive methods such as condoms and lowers the sexual partners youths have. Interestingly enough, those who receive such education are not prone to be more sexually active than others are. Statistical Data about CSE for Youths

  • In a survey of youths in the age group of 15 to 19, it was found that those who received comprehensive sex education were 50% less prone to become pregnant as compared to youths who had received abstinence only education.
  • Around 48 programs on comprehensive sex education were studied and it was found that 40% of such programs helped to postpone sex initiation, 30% of the programs resulted in reduction of sex frequency in youths and almost 60% of the programs helped to reduce the rate of unprotected sex.
Benefits of Comprehensive Sex Education
  • The benefit of comprehensive sex education for the teenagers is that when they are more informed about the different risk their sexual behavior can lead them to, the better decision they will be able to take.
  • Such programs do not encourage youth to have more sex; rather these sex education programs educate them about how they can prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. At the same time, students also get information about how safe different sexual practices are and it helps them take the right decision.
  • One of the major problems with abstinence only education programs is that such programs stop youth from learning about other options they have in front of them apart from abstinence. Comprehensive sex education tries to correct this situation by providing clear information about how to deal with their sexuality.
