Politics has never been free of scandals though for the conservative Indian society, the situation gets even murkier when a politician is found to be involved in a sex scandal. Here are the most notorious sex scandals in Indian politics.

Controversial Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna courted controversy when a CD depicting him in a sex romp with mid-wife and much married Bhanwari Devi surfaced in 2011. The case got even murkier when Bhanwari Devi was found missing and her husband alleged that Maderna had been responsible for her disappearance. Bhanwari Devi was later found to be have been killed by henchmen working at Maderna’s behest.

In 2008, a man named Rohit Shekhar filed a paternity suit claiming that Tiwari was his biological father and that he had has an extra marital affair with his mother Ujjwala Sharma. Tiwari was found to be Shekhar’s biological father though he asked the media to allow him the right to keep his private life out of the public eye. In 2009, the octogenarian Governor of Andhra Pradesh was seen in a sex tape along with three other women. Broadcast by a Telugu language new channel, the sex tape caused Tiwari to be asked to step down as the Governor.

In May 2003, Amarmani Tripathi and hit headlines when it was alleged that he had a vital role in the murder of the poetess Madhumita Shukla. Investigations linked the murder to Shukla’s wife who had apparently got the poetess murdered after having found out that she had an affair with her husband. Amarmani Tripathi, however, faced much public embarrassment later when it was revealed that at the time of her murder, Ms. Shukla had been pregnant with Tripathi’s child.

Sanjay Joshi had been en route to becoming a key player in national politics until he was caught with his pants down on a sex tape in 2005. The emergence of a sex tape and an audio tape in which Joshi had allegedly been telling the unidentified woman about unfulfilled promises.

In 2012, the senior congress leader appeared on a CD filmed by his former driver Mukesh Kumar Lal in which Singhvi was seen in a compromising position with an unidentified female lawyer in a lawyer’s chamber inside the Supreme Court of India! Lal had planned on using the CD to blackmail Singhvi though the tape leaked to the media and was even uploaded to YouTube despite a ban on its publication by the Delhi High Court following Singhvi’s plea.
