Legal Child Pornography?

Legal-Child-Pornography

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the hospital with my father, who had been admitted for a medical procedure which required him to stay there for a couple of days. Out of boredom (hospital-related boredom), we had a brilliant idea of turning the television to watch one of the few channels other than the news channel we had been watching almost all day long. So we turned the T.V. to a channel that I usually do not watch, nor appreciate, but that was for the sake of a hopefully positive change from the usually sad news presented on news channels.

At the time, there was a show running, where the presenter interviewed a very over-rated female singer known for her painfully bad voice, and over plastically-operated looks and sex-appeal. The interview started with a big fuss surrounding the entrance of the queen, uh, I mean the singer (yep, some people actually LOVE her… (body)). But that was not the issue there. What I found very disturbing was the fact that once the singer sat down for the interview, some young girls, as young as 6-7 years of age (if not less), came out with full make-up on, short red provocative dresses (the kind of dresses the singer usually wears herself) and started singing along a play back of one of her songs, and imitated her movements (not appropriate for anyone below 18 according to societal norms). They finished the song and ran back behind stage. Everyone clapped for them, and the interviewer started expressing his admiration for the singer, and discussed how lots of girls try to imitate her every action; pointing to those little girls as an example of society’s love towards her.

I could not believe what I was seeing, little girls are being put on stage, in front of tens of people in the studio, and probably millions watching from their homes. They are dressed in a provocative way, covered in make-up that should not even touch their skins considering their young ages, and taught to dance in a certain way to imitate a woman who is known for her sexual adventures? Have we reached a point in time when little girls are encouraged to go on T.V. and imitate a sex symbol? How disgusting is that? And what kind of messages are we sending to those little girls?

So obviously, those responsible for the show want to make money, they obviously could not care any less about the girls, but I cannot help but wonder: where on Earth are those girls’ parents?? Are they happy about their children’s performances? Did they think about how many sick minds were probably watching the show?

I really wish there was some kind of surveillance on such shows, or maybe television channels… I am not in favour of limiting freedom of the media, but then again this is not freedom, it is a crime towards children. It is a form of abuse undercover; the first step to child trafficking and child pornography, and it is made legal…

That is one hell of a scary twisted world we are living in.
